  4. 4. Grunewald Limousine - Chauffeur Service Berlin

Not a green space itself, but the jumping-off point for one. 🚕 Grunewald is Berlin's great forest — some 3,000 hectares of pine and oak on the western edge, with lakes through it and wild boar that genuinely wander into the suburbs. The S-Bahn to Grunewald station is the cheap way in and drops you at the northern edge. From there the Grunewaldsee is about twenty minutes on foot.

  5. 5. BeachMitte

Sand, in the middle of Berlin. 🏖️ The city is a long way from any coast, so it made its own: imported sand, volleyball courts and deckchairs on a site by the Spree. It is a summer thing and shuts for the winter. The surrounding stretch of riverbank is worth the walk even when the courts are closed.

  6. 6. Großer Tiergarten

Tiergarten: Berlin's green lung! 🌳 This massive park was a recurring backdrop in 'Berlin Green Spaces'. It's where characters went for contemplative walks and secret meetings. Lose yourself in the sprawling pathways and discover hidden monuments.

  7. 7. Viktoriapark

Viktoriapark, on the Kreuzberg — the hill the district is named after. ⛰️ At 66 metres it is one of the higher points in central Berlin, topped by Schinkel's iron monument to the wars against Napoleon. An artificial waterfall runs down the north face, switched on in the warmer months and modelled on one in the Giant Mountains. The view from the top takes in most of the city centre.

  8. 8. S Treptower Park

Treptower Park, and the Soviet War Memorial. 🗿 Some 7,000 Red Army soldiers killed in the Battle of Berlin are buried here, and the scale of the memorial is deliberately overwhelming — a long avenue, sarcophagi down both sides, and a twelve-metre bronze soldier at the end. It is a place people come to be quiet in, not to photograph. The rest of the park runs along the Spree and is ordinary and pleasant.
